FAQ
Why are you going alone?
I won’t really be alone. God goes with me. The old song “Anywhere with
Jesus I can safely go” echoes what Jesus said in the great commission “
. . . and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” God
has called me to go and I am following His leading. He has not sent a
husband to work along side, so I go on pursuing what God has called me
to do. Should He send me someone heading the same direction he'd be
welcome to come along. I will be working with a team of missionaries
already active at the work in Perú. I will have their help and support
as well as be able to help and support them.
What can a single lady to do there? To make an exhaustive list would
take pages. Here are just a few things. Children’s Ministry, Ladies
Ministry, Music Ministry, Marketplace evangelism, Dean of Women for the
Seminary, File clerk, and financial assistant, Go for things, MK home
school consultant and substitute teacher, guest house management,
Literacy worker in Spanish and Quechua, Evangelistic Outreach worker,
Translating for English Speaking ladies that come and would like to
speak to ladies here and our own outreach ministries, Lightening other’s
loads so they can be more effective, and hundreds of other things.
Will you be safe?
Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go. I wondered for a long time why God
made me 6 feet tall. I think now I might know. The Peruvian people
(especially the Quechua Indians) are not very tall. I have met only 3 men in Perú that are as tall as I am. Perú is a place known for pickpockets but
I have never had a problem. I am careful and big. In Quechua names are
given (similar to American Indian names, Sitting Bull, Running Deer,
etc). My name in Quechua is Hatun Usussi, meaning Big Daughter. God knew
that size would be an advantage and He prepared me for the mission
field.
Why BMM?
Baptist Mid-Missions is just one of many good mission agencies out
there. After prayerful consideration and godly counsel, I discerned that God
was leading there. It is a solid board that has been doing God's work
for over 65 years. When I applied to Baptist Mid-Missions I knew that I
had found a missions agency full of people with which I could do God's
work. I heartily agree with their statement of faith and their
philosophy of missions.
Why go there when people here haven’t heard?
I would rather go shine in a land of darkness than burn out in a land
flooded with light. True, many here haven’t heard, but there are
churches on every corner and Bibles in every bookstore. The truth is
readily available to any one. Perú is a land where for the most part we
are delving into territory that has been under the uncontested control
of the devil for generations. Thousands there have never heard the
gospel and have no access to it. They will never hear unless I go to
tell them. Quechua women in countless rural villages cannot even read
the scriptures for themselves and have never heard of the God of Love.
They have always been taught that they are not important enough or
intelligent enough to be able to learn how to read. They don’t know that
the good news how that Jesus died on the cross to pay for their sins and
that they can know for sure that they are going to heaven. With God’s
help I will go to tell them this good news, and then teach them how to
read so they can read the Bible for themselves.
