Trip Briefs
August
4th
Time is going by much too fast!. In
two weeks I will be home. I would like to have
been able to make more frequent reports while in Peru,
but schedules and communication problems have just not
allowed it. I hope to get a letter out to my
supporters in early September.
I had an exciting trip to Santo Tomás
and the campaign there was interesting. I can
report two salvations for sure; the seed was sown
in many more hearts. On
Tuesday, August 6th, I will be going to Puno,
Peru. Puno is on the shores of Lake Titicaco in a
area that borders Bolivia. The seminary students
will be conducting Youth Camp there and I will be a
counselor. I
will return to Cuzco on August 11th. Then
I will begin to prepare for returning to the
States. Because of flight schedules I will be
spending Friday, August 16th in Lima. I get
into Lima at 9:25 AM but don't depart for Miami until
10:57 PM. I plan to visit the La Molina Christian
School while in Lima and I may also be able to visit a
couple of other Missionary contacts I have made during
my summer here in Cuzco. God
willing, I will make a brief report at Antioch
Bible Baptist Church (my home church) in Gladstone,
Missouri during the August 25th Evening Service.
August 28th I leave for Pensacola to begin my senior
year at Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola,
Florida.
July
15th
Things are going well! Wednesday morning, July
17, the entire Tuttle Family and I are going to go to
the Chumbilbilkas Region of Southern Perú for about a
week. We are going to Santo Tomás specifically
(commonly called San Toe Toe). We will be participating
in a 3 day campaign in which Andy will be
preaching. Pray that God will use him. The
area is populated primarily by Quechua speaking Indians
and he will have to preach mostly through an
interpreter. Pray for me. Pray that I can
communicate with the Quechua. I have been learning
a few words and phrases in the Quechua language as
an augment to my Spanish.
Also, pray for us as we travel through the
mountains. It is not far by Missouri standards
(180 miles), but it will be an 8-9 hour drive in Perú.
There were no reports of snow on the roads as of Sunday
evening but this is the time of year for that. It
is expected that it will snow in San Toe Toe during our
visit.
The Quechua is an impoverish people, materially and
spiritually. I have been told that a
summer camp for the youth there costs an equivalent to
$3, which is a sacrifice for most of them. The
camp has no buildings or running water; they sleep
in tents. In Urubamba, near Cuzco, the cost
for youth camp has been $10. The facilities are a
little better there; they use a seminary compound.
Both of these camps have been made possible, in part, by
missions giving. The Perúvian youth has heard the
Gospel of Christ and God has saved souls.
July
8th
My
cold is much better. PTL! A missionary family from Santo Tomás
was to join us for our celebration of the 4th, but couldn't make it.
We still had an enjoyable time. Click here
for some pictures.
Each Saturday Evening we have a Jovenes (youth) group at the Church. Last Saturday they
surprised us and decorated everything in Red, White and Blue to honor us
Americans. Andy preached about Peace and two individuals indicated a need
for salvation. God also gave me the opportunity to share with a young
lady, Marisol, about restoring relationships from a Matthew 18:15 perspective.
Please pray for her.
Yesterday
I taught (in Spanish) the account of Lazarus
being raised from the dead in Sunday School for a Children's class. It
went well in spite of the broad age span - from babies to 7 years old in one
class! A local girl
was with me to observe and she will take the class when my short stay
is complete.
July
2nd
Several
of us Americans are preparing for our 4th of July
Celebration here in the Land of the Incas. We’re
going to make a cake and decorate it like a flag with M
n’ M’s, we’ll probably have watermelon and
hamburgers too. I have had the opportunity to see
a team translating the Bible into the Quechua
language. See my report by clicking here.
Pray
for my health. I have developed a cold. I'll
be looking for some medication later today.
June 21st
Things are going great in Cuzco. I am
adapting well to the Peruvian culture and my Spanish
is improving daily. I have posted a new Prayer
Letter and added a Photo
Gallery. Check them out.
June 8th
By
the time this gets posted I will be in the Jungle area
of Palma Real. A group of 10 students from Bob Jones University
arrived on June 5th for a three week visit. My missionary host, Andy Tuttle,
will be showing us first hand some ministry opportunities
among the Peruvian people. We will be traveling to
some "bambas" to minister and share the
Gospel. Bamba is Quechuan for town (there are lots of “bambas”
here Quillabamba, Urubamba, etc.). The
BJU group will be giving some karate demonstrations to
some jovenes (youth) groups. On June 10th we
will be in Urubamba and will conduct what is
comparable to VBS June 11th-15th . On June 18th
a recreational trip to the Inca Ruins at Machu
Pichu is planned. I hope to be able to provide a
more complete report shortly after that.
June 1st
We have had some
communication problems so I haven't been able to keep
things posted as soon as I would have liked. I had a great trip with several
opportunities to share the gospel along the way.
God protected us from pick pockets and falling building tiles in the first week.
Corpus Cristi came to town. We saw so many burdened
with Idols and The Idol worship of the Roman Catholic Church here in S. America.
Oh! That they would come to know Him Whose burden is light and
Whose yoke is light. For a complete account and a
few pictures click here. It will be a great
summer! I am looking forward to everything that God will teach me.
May 24th
I arrived in Cusco right on time; 7:15
AM, May 24th.
