| Dear Praying Friend, |
July 2008 |
This month I ask you to join me in
praising God for what He has done.
-
Safe travels and arrival in Perú .
-
I am able to communicate well in Spanish.
-
I am adjusting to the elevation, climate change, and new
everything.
-
Ministry here is a blessing.
God has done so much in the last month
it will be difficult to fit it all in this one letter. Things went fairly
smoothly for my travels. At Lima, God provided for me to check-in on my
flight to Cusco with a couple who only had one suitcase each, which meant I
didn’t have to pay for my third bag. What a blessing!
I arrived in Cusco on June 4th and definitely felt the elevation (10,700
ft). That week I was blessed to stay with a retired missionary in Cusco and
to be part of a Ladies Congress attended by some 200+ women from across
Perú. The next Sunday, June 8, I traveled an hour and a half north west of
Cusco to my more permanent home in Urubamba. The church here welcomed me
warmly with a fellowship after church. Also, that night a man named Walberto,
who had been coming for a while, was saved. It has been a huge blessing to
join up with the ministry of Ken and Sharon Loveall and their family. They
have been such an encouragement as I am adjusting to what God has for me
here.
Since I arrived, we have had a Family Conference with a visiting evangelist,
Randy Chovan. He also taught a class in the seminary on Evangelism and
Discipleship. We kept busy, translating and grading tests and running him
and his family to most of the churches in the area so they could share in
the blessing. Shortly before he left, Julie Thompson, a college student,
arrived to join the ministry for the next 6 weeks. On June 19th, Pat and
Wendy Campbell arrived to teach two modules at the seminary - Baptist
History and Visuals and Pedagogy. They returned home the first week of July
to Council Bluffs, Iowa. They were a huge blessing to the ministry here and
we are praying that the Lord will bring them permanently when they retire.
On Sunday, June 29th, we baptized 8 in the river (remember that it’s winter
here—talk about a step of obedience). Walberto invited his staunchly
Catholic wife to come to church and the baptism and she agreed. She was back
Sunday night and was saved as well. PRAISE THE LORD for
what HE is doing.
Sharing God’s love IN the
Andes,
